After the recent hike in rice prices, govt takes up initiative to increase supply at affordable prices

Two metric tonnes of rice will be sold daily in 422 upazilas across the country under the OMS (Open Market Sale) programme.

In the first phase, this programme will run during January and February, according to a notice by the Ministry of Food signed by Imdad Islam, senior information officer and public relations officer.

Each individual will be able to purchase a total of 5kg of rice for Tk30 per kg.

After the recent hike in rice prices, the government has taken the initiative to increase supply at affordable prices for low-income people.

Previously, the OMS programme was conducted through a total of 908 centres, and these will continue to operate, the notice added.
