To avoid any untoward incident, all restaurants at Shimulia Ghat of Mawa in Louhajang Upazila of Munshiganj will be closed after midnight tonight (31 December).

The decision was taken on 27 December at the monthly meeting of the Committee on Law and Order of Louhajang Upazila considering the safety of tourists visiting Shimulia Ghat.

Louhajang Upazila Administration, Tourist Police Padma Bridge Zone, Louhajang Thana Police and Padma Bridge North Thana Police have confirmed the matter.

The administration has ordered to keep them closed not only on the 31st night, but also on the next day (1 January) if necessary, after observing the situation.

In this regard, Louhajang Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md Zakir Hossain said, "This decision has been taken to avoid unexpected incidents. I went to Shimulia Ghat with the OCs of two police stations tonight [Monday] and spoke to the restaurant businessmen. I have ordered them to close their hotels after 12 midnight on the 31st night."

Mohammad Asaduzzaman, inspector of the Padma Bridge zone of the Tourist Police, said, "No one will be allowed to stay at Shimulia Ghat after 12am. There is a ban on movement after 12am in the Mawa area of ​​the Padma Bridge as well."

He also said fireworks and crackers are prohibited in Shimulia Ghat and surrounding areas. In addition, events in open places have been banned considering the safety of tourists.

Shimulia Ghat Restaurant Businessmen Association President Md. Murad Khan said, "The upazila administration, police and tourist police came at night [Monday] and ordered the restaurants to remain closed after midnight on the 31st night. According to their decision, all restaurants at Shimulia Ghat will be closed after midnight."
