While differences of opinion may exist, journalists must remain united in their professional pursuits and uphold uncompromising standards in their work, said Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

"What we write must be based on facts. We should never compromise. Once you compromise, you may have to do it for a lifetime," he said at the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on data journalism organised by the TIB at BCDM in Rajendrapur, Gazipur on Saturday (28 December).

"Offence is the best defence. We must remain united in our professional domain," he added.

The workshop trained journalists in data analysis, data collection, and presenting information accurately.

It included discussions and hands-on sessions on using modern computer tools and crafting data-driven stories.

The training was conducted by Mohammad Towhidul Islam, director of Outreach and Communication at TIB; Miraz Ahmed Chowdhury, managing director of Digitally Right; and Microsoft trainer Anwar Hossain Fakir. Bloomberg data journalist Nazmul Ahsan also joined virtually.
