The kidney recipient is Sahara Begum, a 48-year-old resident of Dhaka. Kohinoor is Sahara's aunt.

The transplant programme, which started at 8am today, was successfully completed at 3pm.

At this time, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam said, "There are advanced kidney transplant services in the country, especially at BSMMU, at a low cost. Patients do not need to go abroad for kidney transplants by spending additional money."

The total cost of a kidney transplant at BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital is Tk3 lakh, he mentioned, adding, "If you go to a neighbouring country to get the transplant, the cost will be at least Tk25 lakh."
