A third body has been recovered from the chemical warehouse of the M&U Trims Limited button manufacturing factory in Bhangnahati village, Sreepur upazila, Gazipur this morning (23 December).

This brings the death toll from the fire that broke out yesterday (22 December) afternoon to three.

Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Joynal Abedin Mondal, confirmed the incident, stating, "One burnt body was recovered this morning. All three recovered bodies were burnt beyond recognition, so their identities cannot be confirmed. We are continuing our search of the entire factory and suspect the victims might have died during the initial explosion."

2 killed in Gazipur Factory Fire

According to Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Mamun, the fire broke out at approximately 1:30pm and the first alert reached the Sreepur Fire Station at 1:40pm. By 1:56pm, two fire units began efforts to control the blaze.

Due to reports of explosions in chemical drums, five additional units joined, including three from Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station and two from Rajendrapur Modern Fire Station.

"A total of seven units worked together, bringing the fire under control after nearly two and a half hours. There were many chemical drums. The heat caused the drums to swell and explode, complicating firefighting efforts," he said.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and conduct a thorough search of the factory premises.
