The accident occurred around 8:15am in the Hajibazar garage area of Pekua Sadar union, according to Durjoy Biswas, inspector (investigation) of Pekua police station

Four people were killed and one injured in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a dumper truck on the ABC regional highway in Cox's Bazar's Pekua upazila this morning (19 December).  

The accident occurred around 8:15am in the Hajibazar garage area of Pekua Sadar union, according to Durjoy Biswas, inspector (investigation) of Pekua police station.  

"The identities of the deceased and the injured could not be confirmed immediately," said the inspector.

Quoting locals, he said, "The auto-rickshaw was heading towards Pekua Sadar when a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction hit it in the Hajibazar Garage area. The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled, resulting in the deaths of four people on the spot and injuries to one. Locals rescued the injured and took him/her to the Pekua Upazila Health Complex."  

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, recovered the vehicles involved in the accident, and seized them, added the official.
