A Rajshahi doctor treated patients at his private chamber for 11 days at a stretch, although his Covid-19 infected daughter lives in the same house.

Now he and his wife have tested Covid-19 positive.

The doctor – a diabetes specialist – is Rajshahi University Medical Centre's Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr FMA Zahid.

He has a seven-storey house in Rajshahi city's Alupotti area and his Rajshahi Diabetic Welfare Centre is located on the ground floor of the building.

Sources said, on June 22, Dr Zahid's daughter, who is also a doctor, contracted Covid-19 while working at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

She has been receiving treatment at home where Dr Zahid, his wife, and son also live.

Dr Zahid saw 100 to 150 diabetic patients there every day even after his daughter had been infected with Covid-19.

During the second Covid-19 test of his daughter on July 3, all the members of their family were tested for the virus.

On that day, Dr Zahid and his wife tested positive. He also treated patients on that day.

When contacted Dr Zahid said, "I don't have any symptoms yet but I tested Covid-19 positive. My wife and I live on the seventh floor of my building while my daughter, son and mother-in-law stay on the sixth floor."

"But sometimes I went to them to cheer them up mentally. I might have contracted the virus from there. But my son and my mother-in-law have not been affected."

Regarding the treatment of patients, Dr Zahid said, "I wore a mask while treating patients. No one has complained of any problem yet."

Asked about the issue, Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said, "If someone has a Covid-19 patient at home, he must remain in quarantine. There is no question of giving treatment."
