At least seven people were injured in a violent clash between two factions of the BNP in Sitakunda, Chattogram, over placing flowers at Shaheed Minar on Victory Day.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm today (16 December) in the Faujdarhat area of Salimpur Union, according to Inspector Sohel Rana, in charge of the Faujdarhat Police Outpost.

Inspector Rana stated that the dispute began in the morning between two groups, led by local BNP leaders Mohiuddin and Rokon Member respectively, over placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

"The tension escalated during a Victory Day discussion meeting at the Faujdarhat School grounds. Both factions engaged in throwing brickbats and wielding sticks. The situation worsened when an unidentified individual detonated a crude bomb," he added.

Inspector Rana said, "Police intervened promptly and brought the situation under control. The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment."

Confirming the incident, Sitakunda Upazila BNP President Mohammad Mohiuddin told TBS that an investigation would be conducted, and organisational action would be taken against those responsible.

TBS could not immediately reach the BNP leaders in question.
