Four people were killed in Gazipur as a truck hit an auto-rickshaw smashing it with a covered van on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in the Chandana Chowrasta area last night (11 December).

The accident took place under the BRT Flyover in the area around 11:30pm, said police.

The deceased were identified as Saleha Akter, 26, Imran hossain Rajon, 38, Md Mamun, 23 and Md Dulal, 42.

Officer-in-Charge of Bason Police Station Rahedul Islam said, "Four people have died in the accident. Their bodies have been kept in the morgue. The driver and the helper of the truck fled after the accident. Legal steps are being taken."

The accident left the four critically injured, who were later taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead.

"The four were brought dead to the hospital. Among them, two were brought around 11pm and another two were brought around 12am. Their bodies have been kept in the morgue," said Resident Medical Officer of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Dr Sheikh Farhad.
