Bangladesh records highest single-day dengue deaths this year: six dead, 586 infected

Bangladesh recorded six deaths from dengue fever today (11 September), marking the highest single-day toll from the viral infection so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the deceased, three were children aged between 11 and 15, while the other three were adults between 21 and 35. The previous record for the most dengue deaths in a single day was five, reported on 31 August.
During the same 24-hour period, 586 dengue patients were hospitalised. Among them, 109 in Barishal, 58 in Chattogram, 104 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), 103 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 144 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 12 in Mymensingh, 44 in Rajshahi, 10 in Rangpur, and two in Sylhet.
Since the start of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has recorded 36,682 infections and 145 deaths. Last year, the disease claimed 575 lives and affected 101,214 people across the country.
