Another 105 Bangladeshi citizens returned to the country from war-torn Lebanon on Thursday (5 December), taking the total number of Lebanon returnees to 963.

The returnees were welcomed at the airport by officials from the government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), reads a press release. They returned on an Emirates Airlines flight.

The release said all of them returned at the government's expense and received Tk5,000 in cash along with some food items and initial treatment.

Earlier on 4 December, 64 Bangladeshis returned to the country from Lebanon.

A total of 1,800 Bangladeshis expatriates registered to return from Lebanon, with repatriations being carried out in phases, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to facilitate the safe return of those affected by the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.

Among the 963 Bangladeshi nationals, 54 people returned on 21 October; 96 people on 23 October, 30 on 28 October; 36 on 29 October; 52 on 31 October, 70 on 3 November, 32 on 5 November, 95 on 12 November, 151 via an IOM-sponsored charter flight on 5 November, and 6 individuals on an IOM flight on 21 November, according to media reports.

As the Israeli offensive is continuing in Lebanon, the government has taken all measures to repatriate those who want to return home and ensure safety for those who want to stay in Lebanon.

So far, one Bangladeshi expatriate has been killed in Lebanon.
