The government has appointed four new members to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) for a three-year term.

The newly appointed BERC members are Dr Syeda Sultana Razia, Md Gias Uddin Joarder, Md Abdur Razzak and Md Mizanur Rahman, according to separate notifications issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources today.

According to the notifications, services of the new members would be considered as full-time and they cannot be involved in any other jobs during their tenure in the BERC.

They will get benefits and allowances as per the finance division letter no - 07.00.0000.126.00.001.10-87 issued on 19 April 2017. Apart from this, they will get treatment expenditure.

The notification said as the member of BERC, they won't be able to run any business under their own names or the names of their dependants in any organisation under power and energy sector.

They would be able to resign from his/her post by sending a letter of resignation to the president signed by them separately giving one month's notice.

Clause-11 of the Bangladesh Energy Commission Act, 2003 will be applicable to remove any member from their posts, the notification added.

The appointments were made in the public interest and the conditions of the appointment will be determined by the BERC Act, 2003.
