Body formed to assess economic losses due to NBR officials' shutdown

The Internal Resources Division of the finance ministry has formed a committee to assess the overall economic loss incurred due to the recent protest programmes by National Board of Revenue (NBR) employees.
Syed Robiul Islam, joint secretary of the Internal Resources Division, has been made convener of the nine-member committee, according to a notice issued by the division today (16 July).
The committee comprises a deputy secretary-ranked official each from the finance, commerce and industries ministries, and representatives from Chattogram Port Authority, NBR, BGMEA, and FBCCI.
The deputy secretary (administration-1) of the Internal Resources Division will act as the member secretary of the committee.
The committee has been asked to submit a report within the next 30 days after assessing the overall financial loss caused by the disruption of taxation and export-import activities at all land and naval ports.
It will also estimate the losses in revenue resulting from protest programmes by the staff of the Customs and VAT Department and Tax Division for two months, at Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Custom Houses, Customs Bond Commissionerate, and at all offices and sub-offices under its jurisdiction and in all tax regions.
The committee has also been asked to assess the losses incurred due to the strike at the Chattogram Custom House for two days, from 28-29 June.
