'Lost our only son': 15-year-old Mahtab succumbs to 85% burn injuries
Mahtab, 15, had sustained 85% burn injuries in the massive fire that had followed the crash at the primary section building of the school on 21 July.

Another child, who suffered critical injuries after a fighter aircraft crashed at the Diabari campus of Milestone School and College in Uttara, has passed away -- taking the death toll from the horrific tragedy to 30.
Mahtab Rahman Bhuiyan, 15, had sustained 85% burn injuries in the massive fire that had followed the crash at the primary section building of the school on 21 July.
He passed away while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) at 1:52pm today (24 July), confirmed the institute's resident physician, Dr Shawon Bin Rahman.
His body was handed over to the family around 4:30pm.
Mahtab's condition has been critical since yesterday morning (23 July) and he was kept on life support, according to doctors.
'Lost our only son'
Mahtab was a seventh-grade student at the Milestone School, son of Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan.
Mahtab was the second among three siblings. He lived with his parents in Uttara. Their ancestral home is in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla.
Mahtab's aunt, Lipi Akhter, told The Business Standard, "Mahtab was the only son in our entire family. Mahtab's father has two brothers, and none of their cousins have sons either. And now, we've lost our only son."
According to the list released by the government today (24 July), 29 people have died so far (the list includes data received until 11am).
The names of the deceased are:
Tanvir (14), Afnan Faiyaz (14), Mahrin (46), Bappy (9), Masuka (37), AB Samim (14), Shayan Yousuf (14), Arikson (13), Ariyan (13), Nazia (13), Nafi (9), Rojoni Islam, (37), Md. Samiul Karim (9), Mrs Fatema Akter (9), Mehnaz Afarin Humayra, (9), Sariya Akter (13), Nusrat Jahan Anika (10), Sad Salaudddin, (9), Sayma Akter (9), Flight Lt. Md. Towkir Islam (21), Junayet (9), Omayer Nur Ashfiq (11).
According to the latest government data, seven bodies remain unidentified.
The death toll has risen to 31 following the deaths of Mahtab and 15-year-old Mahia.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed the identities of five individuals today.
The identified victims are Okiya Ferdous Nidhi, daughter of Faruk Hossain and Salma Akter, Lamia Akhter Sonia, daughter of Babul and Majeda, Afsana Akter Priya, daughter of Abbas Uddin and Minu Akter, Raisa Moni, daughter of Shahabul Sheikh and Mim, and Marium Umme Afia, daughter of Abdul Kadir and Umme Tamima Akter.
On 21 July, a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) F-7 BGI fighter jet crashed into the Diabari campus of Milestone College in the capital's Uttara shortly after takeoff, sparking a massive fire.
The plane had taken off from BAF Base Bir Uttom AK Khandker at 1:06pm and crashed due to a technical failure, according to the ISPR.
The pilot had ejected from the aircraft but later died from injuries at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
The fighter jet had crashed into the primary school building moments before classes would have ended.
A high-level investigation committee of the Air Force was formed on Monday immediately after the crash to find out the cause of the accident.
