Eid-ul-Fitr is more than just a festival. It is a feeling that fills homes with love, laughter, and cherished traditions. It is an auspicious day for Muslims, marking the end of Ramadan with gratitude, celebration, and togetherness.

Nafisa Alam, a mother of two from Dhaka, recalls how, as a child, she would watch her mother carefully rearrange the furniture to make space for visiting relatives.

"The plates and dishes, neatly stacked and reserved only for special guests, would finally come off the shelves, ready to be used for Eid feasts," she laughs as she shares this moment.

Now living abroad with her family, Nafisa strives to bring the same warmth and excitement of Eid into her home. She decorates with care, adding personal touches to make the day extra special.

For Nafisa, it's not just about aesthetics—it's about teaching her children the values of their religion and connecting them to the traditions she cherishes. As a passionate home decor enthusiast, Nafisa shares a few simple yet elegant tips with TBS to help you elevate your home for Eid this year.

Fairy lights

Adding fairy lights is the easiest way to brighten up your space for Eid. For a subtle touch, drape them along windows or wrap them around the edges of shelves. If you're looking to create a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere, hang them behind sheer curtains or across the ceiling. You can even add them to potted plants for a whimsical effect.

They are quite affordable, ranging from Tk150 to Tk800 depending on the design and length.

Table runners, dinnerware and napkins

Eid meals are the highlight of the celebration, and your dining table should reflect that special vibe. Start with a luxurious table runner or placemats in silk or linen for added texture and elegance. Aarong and Jatra offer beautiful options starting at Tk500.

When choosing dinnerware, mix and match to create a sophisticated yet personal feel. Pair fine porcelain plates with simpler bowls or glassware for a more relaxed look. Be mindful of your colour palette—use a neutral base with pops of colour, like gold-rimmed glasses or patterned plates, to create a balanced, festive vibe.

For napkins, get creative with folds—whether it's a simple rectangle or a more intricate flower or fan fold. Place them in the center of each plate or use a decorative napkin ring for an elegant touch. Finish off the table with small touches like candles or a vase of fresh flowers.

The key is to balance bold patterns with more neutral elements, ensuring the table feels festive without being overwhelming.

Candles and bukhoor

A home filled with pleasant scents creates a welcoming atmosphere for Eid. Choose candles in calming scents like oud, rose, or lavender and place them in decorative lanterns or on trays for a serene effect.

Bukhoor is also perfect for adding a rich fragrance to the air. Position them near entryways to greet guests with a warm aroma. Bukhoor can be found at Al Harmain, starting from Tk2,000.

Cosy cushions and throws

Cushions and throws add both comfort and style to your home. Opt for velvet or silk cushions in rich hues like gold or emerald, and layer them on sofas or armchairs for a festive feel.

Mixing different shapes and sizes of cushions can create a dynamic, cosy atmosphere. Throws can be draped over furniture or beds to add warmth and texture.

Islamic art and wall hangings

Incorporating Islamic art into your Eid decor adds a spiritual and elegant touch. Framed calligraphy pieces, such as simple Eid Mubarak, or verses from the Quran are ideal.

These pieces work beautifully when placed above the sofa, in the dining room, or even as a feature in the entrance hall. You can mix and match larger calligraphy pieces with smaller ones to create a balanced display on a wall.

Serving trays and dessert stands

Serving trays and dessert stands are perfect for elevating your Eid meal while doubling as decorative elements. Gold-rimmed trays bring a touch of elegance while wooden or metal trays with intricate patterns add a versatile, timeless look, perfect for both serving and decorating.

Tiered stands, available in materials like glass or ceramic, are ideal for displaying multiple treats like baklava, dates or custard, in an organised way that is sure to earn the praises of your guests for both its elegance and practicality.
