Pixar's recent animated film "Soul" which got its trailer released recently, is a joint venture of Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the trailer, it looks like "Soul" is going to portray a similar existential crisis on depicting human consciousness and afterlife, just like Pixar's "Inside Out" (2015) and "Coco" (2017).

A high school music teacher - Joe Gardner, on the verge of a big break finds himself taking an unexpected detour through the afterlife - is the main theme of the movie "Soul".

Directed by Pete Docter (Inside Out, Up), Soul features Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, and Questlove as its vocals.

In the trailer, we see that the post-mortal world of "Soul" seems to have its own rules, which Joe, the musician, rejects and accidentally falls into "The Great Before" which is the light at the end of the tunnel. This is the space where souls form their personalities before they are born as humans.

There, Joe meets an unborn soul who is already tired of the life she has yet to live; "Is all this living worth dying for?" she asks him. It is up to Joe to convince her that yes, yes it is, even when things are hard.

Director Docter told Entertainment Weekly last year that the film is "an exploration of, where should your focus be? What are the things that, at the end of the day, are going to be the important things that you look back on and go, I spent a worthy amount of my limited time on Earth worrying or focused on that?"

The jazzy tunes in the movie come from "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" band leader Jon Batiste, while Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are providing the score.

Soul opens in theaters on June 19, 2020.
