Mosharraf Karim all set for Kolkata debut today

Popular Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim is going to  have another feather in his cap as his first film in Kolkata, India, is going to be released on February 12.

He left for Kolkata last Wednesday to promote the film. He will be busy doing promotions for his film for a week. The film, named Dictionary, is directed by Kolkata director and Tourism Minister of West Bengal Bratya Basu.

Work on the film started exactly one year ago in February. But the shooting stopped in March due to Covid-19. However, the shooting of Mosharraf Karim's part ended before that. He also returned to Bangladesh after that.

Later, he went to Kolkata at the end of last year for dubbing. The film became ready to be released after that.

The film was shot in Bolpur, Jangalmahal, Coffee House and other places in Kolkata. Mosharraf Karim said he enjoyed the shooting with the new unit in the new place.

"This is my first work in Kolkata. In fact, wherever the actor works, he will do the same thing - acting. That's what I did. I have tried to portray the character that Bratyada gave me. The good thing is that Bratyada's thoughts on the character matched mine. So, it became easier for me," Mosharraf told The Business Standard.

Asked why he was chosen for the role, Mosharraf Karim answered, "The director could say that better. But as far as I have heard, he watched some of my works. That's why he contacted me for the character. Then I started acting."

When asked what is the difference between the cinematic practice of Bangladesh and Kolkata, Mosharraf said, "Basically, there is no difference. If the content is good, then the director knows how he has to do the work. Bratyada completed the whole work very consciously. So, I would say (in Kolkata) they work a little bit neatly. Bangladeshi directors also do this in the same way. But they actually get less of that opportunity."

The story depicts the theme of relationship gap, said Mosharraf Karim. He and Kolkata actress Paulmi played the role of husband and wife in the story. Mosharraf is a novice businessman with no higher educational qualifications who wants his son to study well.

However, some hints of the story have been found in the teaser and trailer of the film. Glimpses of Mosharraf Karim's performance have also been seen there.

The film is based on two short stories of Buddhadev Guha- 'Baba Howa' (Being a Father) and 'Swami Howa' (Being a Husband).

Asked if he is going to act in any other film in Kolkata, Mosharraf Karim said, "There have been discussions with many people. But nothing can be said if it is not final."

Before concluding, the actor also spoke about his Kolkata fans. There is a huge number of fans of Mosharraf Karim in Kolkata and all over West Bengal. Many of them came to see him during the shooting of the film.

They talked with me and took selfies, he said.
