M Night Shyamalan reveals title and poster for mysterious new movie

M Night Shyamalan revealed the poster and title of his new movie titled 'Old.'

Shyamalan announced the news via twitter the first teaser artwork for the film, which depicts an hourglass with people falling through it rather than sand, reported by Collider.

Feels like a miracle that I am standing here shooting the first shot of my new film. It's called Old. #OldMovie @OldTheMovie pic.twitter.com/hth8jUum8K— M. Night Shyamalan (@MNightShyamalan) September 26, 2020

The tag line of "It's only a matter of time" suggests the film is a thriller about, well, the passage of time and aging. But Collider reports that Old is based on the French graphic novel Sandcastle:

"Sandcastle follows a group of 13 people who aren't able to leave a mysterious, secluded beach that hides a dark secret involving time, which is referenced on the Old poster. The graphic novel is described as an existential horror story about the inevitability of death that plays like a Kafka-esque episode of The Twilight Zone or Lost."

According to Collider, Shyamalan received the graphic novel by writer Pierre Oscar Levy and artist Frederik Peeters as a Father's Day gift and scooped up the movie rights to it. Old, however, is only inspired by the graphic novel rather being a straightforward adaptation.

Old's cast includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Alex Wolff, Thomasin McKenzie, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Embeth Davidtz, Emun Elliott Eliza Scanlen, Aaron Pierre, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Ken Leung.

The film is scheduled to open July 23, 2021.
