To promote Bangladeshi folk music globally, IPDC Finance Limited created a virtual platform 'IPDC Amader Gaan' in September last year. Since its inception the platform has so far released tracks of 9 folk songs on their YouTube channel with the same title.

The platform exclusively features diverse musical influences and offers studio-recorded performances by promising singers of the country. Penned by several mystic bards including Fakir Lalon Shah, Shah Abdul Karim and Palli Kabi Jasimuddin, several covers received unparallel popularity.

Facebook was flooded with an overwhelming response with the release of their first song, 'Sakhi Tora Prem Korio Na', composed by Shah Abdul Karim and recorded by Shiuli Sarkar. In no time, a Lalon song 'Teen Pagoler Holo Mela' rendered by Laila hit 3M, proving the latent demand of such renditions among the people.

About 80% viewers are aged between 18 and 34. It indicates how the young love the reanimated version of folk songs. Among the viewers, 79% are from Bangladesh, 6.4% are from India, 3.4% are from Saudi Arabia and the rest of all are from across the globe.

To commemorate the 50th year of independence of Bangladesh, the platform, which is a brainchild of renowned singer-musician Partha Barua, was later conceptualised by three personalities -- Mominul Islam, MD and CEO of IPDC Finance Limited, Partha Barua, who has been directing music for the songs and Rashid Khan, the owner of CREATO, a modern-day advertising agency that is engaged in the overall management and supervision of this musical platform.

Mominul Islam and Rashed Khan have timely grasped the idea and supported the thought at a go.

"It's one of my dream projects as I wanted to work in such kind of project for the last six years," said Partha Barua. "I am grateful to all associated with the project.  Initially Rashid and I were confused of whether IPDC will be convinced to join us or not, but Mominul Islam rightly responded to the good cause."

Elaborating on the project, Mominul Islam expressed his desire for promoting songs of this soil to the world. "With a passion for driving people to live unbound, IPDC has always strived to offer innovative initiatives beyond its role as a financial institution," said Mominul Islam. "'IPDC Amader Gaan,' attempts to touch the lives of the masses. Moreover, through this platform, we seek to celebrate the diversity of our culture while presenting unsung music genres, like folk music, into the global limelight," he added.

To present timeless folk songs in a different way, the music director has mingled the local cultural milieu with the contemporary trends of music. The arrangement of music, the use of both traditional and modern instruments and the design of set and light speak of that aspect. It is an exquisite folk set like never seen. The set has officially been selected in London International Creative Competition, which is indeed a matter of pride, beside the platform itself.

The platform attempts to revive Bangladeshi folk music with a new light. Music enthusiasts can stay up to date with the latest information and upcoming tracks from IPDC Amader Gaan's official Facebook Page.
