iflix to close Bangladesh office, streaming to continue
The company is also closing their operations in Nepal and Thailand
On-demand streaming service iflix is closing down their operations in Bangladesh. Nevertheless, Bangladeshi users can continue to access iflix service.
The Malaysia-based emerging market focused streaming service had operations in 22 countries including Bangladesh. The company runs all of their operations in 22 countries from the head office located in capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
However, they are also closing their operations in Bangladesh, Nepal and Thailand.

While speaking with The Business Standard about iflix closing operations in Bangladesh, Wasit Khan, said, "Due to the on-going pandemic, business risks increased dramatically, therefore, the head office took this decision. As our contents are mostly advertisement based and advertisement market has shrunk, we were compelled to take such a decision."
He informed that there were a total of eight employees at iflix Dhaka office, located in Banani. Iflix made its subscription free during the shutdown.
In 2017, iflix launched its operations in Bangladesh. In the beginning the streaming services partnered with local telecommunication companies Robi and Airtel. Iflix also made or produced local contents.
So far, the on-demand streaming site has more than 25million subscribers and the number is increasing every day.
iflix content library has special collections for local subscribers. Wasit Khan said, "Although we have a huge library or collection of Korean dramas and films, we also have a wide range of different kinds of content categorised under horror, animation, thriller, Chinese, Hindi, romance tabs. We also have an iflix original category.
"Iflix also has collections for kid and TV shows," he added.
Consumers can stream the contents on their website, www.iflix.com, or download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
iflix offers subscribers an extensive library of iconic, critically acclaimed TV series and fan-favourite films both internationally and locally available in the region, including current hit Hollywood titles "The Flash," "Arrow," "Mr. Robot," "Vampire Diaries" and "Big Bang Theory," and Bollywood hits "Piku," and "Barfi."
