Japan PM 'looks forward' to work with Bangladesh PM Tarique to boost bilateral ties

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has congratulated Bangladesh's new Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and expressed her commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
In a congratulatory letter sent today (17 February), Takaichi extended her congratulations on Tarique's assumption of office and welcomed the "further promotion of democratic effort in Bangladesh".
She also expressed that Japan "looks forward to working with Prime Minister Rahman to further develop the bilateral relations based on the Strategic Partnership between our two countries."
She also highlighted Tokyo's interest in advancing cooperation across political, economic and cultural spheres.
Earlier in the day, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman took oath as the country's 11th prime minister, with the swearing-in of the new 50-member cabinet following his party's sweeping victory in the 13th national election.
Besides taking the oath of prime minister, Tarique also took the oath of secrecy. After the swearing-in, he signed the oath of office and oath of secrecy.
