Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie Amde has welcomed Bangladeshi investment in Ethiopia, particularly in the garment and pharmaceutical sectors.

The issues were discussed when Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman met the president at his office in Addis Ababa yesterday (21 April).
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir was present at the meeting.
The foreign minister invited the Ethiopian president to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time and requested him to open Ethiopia's embassy in Dhaka, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Ethiopia, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, education, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
At the outset, the Ethiopian president congratulated the new government and the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the February 2026 elections and extended his greetings to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his landslide victory.
He also appreciated Bangladesh's continued contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, particularly in Africa.
The foreign minister underscored the importance of enhancing economic engagement and identified potential areas of cooperation, including ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, and jute products.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between the two countries in various international forums, including the UN, the NAM, the Group of 77, and South-South cooperation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration in the multilateral arena.
