EducationUSA holds higher study info session for parents

EducationUSA at the EMK Center held a virtual information session on higher study for parents on Saturday (29 May). 

The session was exclusively intended for the purpose of providing parents of the prospective applicants with a detailed overview of the application process, including tips and suggestions on how to successfully find university and scholarship that best matches a student's need and also what financial documents are required to apply for that, said a press release. 

EducationUSA adviser Razoun Siddiky Tohin conducted the session and informed the participants about resources while guiding and advising them on steps to apply for higher education and how to find the best-fit university. 

He said, "Students must prepare themselves according to their needs and availability." 

Starting from research, finance, application, applicant visa to departure, all steps were elaborately discussed at the virtual event. 

The session included insights from the adviser about test requirements, preparation timeline, admission essays or SOP, recommendation letters, academic reports, and some of the misconceptions among the parents like cost and financial aid, documents, the complexity of the SAT test.  

The floor was given to participants for their inquiries regarding the relative procedure. 

Shahed Ali, an educator who shared an anecdote prior to sending his daughter to study in the USA said, "My wife was horrified before sending our daughter to an unknown country all alone, but after visiting there by herself she was assured that our daughter would be in a safe environment."

Keeping the ongoing pandemic in mind, he also suggested the applicants seize the opportunity of applying abroad in the meantime as there are lots of less time-consuming and flexible options given these days. "Over 1400 universities in the USA are giving equal opportunities for all SAT and ACT scores for Fall 2022 admission. A lot of universities are extremely generous in considering the situations of students and countries in light of the pandemic", added Mr. Tohin.

The adviser suggested channeling the child properly by involving her in extracurricular activities and keeping her updated with new subjects and career opportunities when a mother whose daughter is currently in grade 8 asked the adviser how she can prepare her daughter from this very stage and also what the best subjects to choose for the next world when it comes to applying for higher education in future.

Rakib, a teacher of Maple Leaf International School said, "This has been one of the most informative sessions of the whole application process, besides discussing the new features namely take-home exams through Duolingo unlike TOEFL and IELTS and also universities offering blended programs like online and offline." 

He stressed on encouraging the applicants and parents by taking consideration in sharing the information with more people.
