When the summer sun beats down and the heat becomes too much, nothing feels better than a cold treat.

In Bangladeshi homes, especially during the long, humid days, refreshing snacks are a must. Instead of buying ice creams full of sugar and preservatives, many families are now turning to homemade fruit popsicles – fun, healthy, and easy to make.

From mangoes and watermelon to lychee, pineapple, and orange, summer brings a burst of colourful fruits. These fruits are packed with vitamins and help keep your body cool. By blending them into popsicles, you get a delicious snack that is both tasty and good for health.

"Fruits like watermelon and orange are rich in water and Vitamin C, making them perfect for staying hydrated. Homemade fruit popsicles are a great way to enjoy fruits without added sugar or chemicals," said nutritionist Samira Haque.

Mothers too are loving this idea. Tanjina Alam, a mother of two, shared, "My kids love popsicles, but I was worried about giving them too many store-bought ones. Now I make them at home with mango, banana, and yoghurt. They think it is dessert, but I know it is healthy."

You can get creative, blend mangoes with a little coconut milk for a tropical flavour, or mix strawberries and yoghurt for a creamy, tangy treat. You can also add some mint, a splash of lemon juice, or even small fruit chunks for texture. It is all about mixing what your favourite fruits or what you have in the fridge, it is that customisable.

How to make fruit popsicles at home

You will need:

  • 2 cups of chopped fruits (any fruit you like)
  • A splash of water, coconut water, or yoghurt
  • Optional: Honey or date syrup for sweetness

Steps:

  • Blend the fruits with the liquid until smooth
  • Add a little sweetener if needed
  • Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and insert popsicle sticks
  • Freeze for six to eight hours until solid
  • Enjoy with your friends and families
