Top Himalayan treks popular with Bangladeshis
Once a rare sight, Bangladeshi hikers are now no longer strangers to Nepal’s majestic trails. From Annapurna to Everest and beyond, here are the top trekking routes on which Bangladeshis are making their mark
In April 2025, I spent the entire month hiking through Nepal, and what I discovered was both surprising and heartening: Bangladeshis have become a visible and enthusiastic presence on the Himalayan trails.
On popular trekking routes such as Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), the Annapurna Circuit, Everest Base Camp (EBC), Manaslu Base Camp, Mardi Himal, the Langtang trek, and even Kanchenjunga Base Camp (KBC), I came across nearly 200 fellow Bangladeshis exploring the heights.
This was a far cry from 2007, when I first hiked through Mustang. Back then, the hotel manager I met was astonished to see a Bangladeshi trekker. He said I was the first he had encountered. I told him confidently, "You'll see many more soon." Nearly two decades later, it seems that prediction has finally come true.
Here are some of Nepal's most popular hiking trails that Bangladeshi adventurers are now embracing.

Annapurna Base Camp
The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is perhaps the most popular among Bangladeshi hikers. It's relatively short, usually taking 9 to 10 days, and the altitude— peaking at 4,130 metres— is manageable for most people. The route offers a good balance of scenic beauty, cultural experience, and physical challenge, making it ideal for both first-timers and seasoned hikers.
A typical journey starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From there, trekkers head to Naya Pool and begin walking through picturesque villages like Ghandruk and Chhomrong. The path ascends gradually through Bamboo and Deurali, finally reaching the base camp. On the way back, many also stop at Poon Hill for breathtaking sunrise views.
Estimated Budget: Trekking agencies in Kathmandu offer various packages, but Bangladeshi tour operators typically charge around $350 for this trek.
Everest Base Camp
For many, reaching Everest Base Camp (EBC) is the ultimate dream. It's a longer and more challenging hike— usually requiring 14 days— and reaches an altitude of 5,364 metres. Because of the altitude, acclimatisation days are essential along the way.
The adventure begins with a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the world's most dangerous airports. From there, trekkers hike through the Sherpa heartland, stopping in famous villages like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche. Along the way, you'll get close-up views of Everest and other majestic peaks, culminating in visits to both Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, a vantage point with stunning views.
Estimated budget: The cost varies depending on your route, number of acclimatisation days, and whether you hire a guide or porter. Most Bangladeshi agencies offer packages starting from around $1,200, which includes the Lukla flight.
Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit has become increasingly popular for its diversity, off-the-beaten-path appeal, and the rich mix of landscapes and cultures it offers. The full trek usually takes about 12 to 13 days.
The route starts from Machha Khola and gradually ascends through charming villages like Jagat, Deng, Namrung, and Lho. After reaching Sama Gaon, trekkers spend a couple of days acclimatising and may even hike up to the Manaslu Base Camp. The highest point of the trek is the Larkya La Pass, at 5,160 metres, after which the trail descends to Bimthang and eventually back to Dharapani for the return to Kathmandu.
Estimated budget: Depending on the agency, costs can range between $800 and $1,000. Bangladeshi hiking groups often offer affordable and well-organised packages.
Kanchenjunga Base Camp
For those seeking a more remote and untouched trekking experience, the Kanchenjunga Base Camp (KBC) trek offers exactly that. It's often described as one of the most pristine and nature-friendly trails in Nepal. Because it's far from Kathmandu, it takes longer to reach and tends to cost more. Lodges along the route are also much simpler than those on the EBC or ABC trails.
The journey begins with a flight to Bhadrapur, followed by a drive through Ilam and Taplejung to Sekathum. From there, the trek ascends through quiet villages like Amjilosa, Gyabla, and Ghunsa, with time for acclimatisation in both Ghunsa and Kambachen. Eventually, hikers reach Lhonak and make a day trip to the stunning North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga before retracing their steps.
Estimated budget: Excluding the cost of flights and ground transport, the trek typically ranges from $800 to $1,000.
Mardi Himal Trek
The Mardi Himal trek has rapidly gained popularity among Bangladeshi hikers due to its short duration and breathtaking scenery. The entire trip can be completed in as few as five days, making it perfect for those with limited time.
Starting from Pokhara, the trail winds through Forest Camp and Low Camp before reaching High Camp. On the fourth day, hikers ascend to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 metres for panoramic views of the Annapurna range. The final day involves descending to Siding Village before returning to Pokhara.
Estimated budget: This is one of the most affordable treks, with Bangladeshi groups offering packages from $300 to $400. Some groups extend the trek to six or seven days for a more relaxed pace.
Where to Book
Thamel in Kathmandu remains the hub for all things trekking—full of experienced agencies offering a wide range of packages. However, many Bangladeshi hikers now book through trusted local groups. Some popular names include Tour Group BD, Bengal Trekkers, and Altitude Hunter. In Nepal, reliable agencies like Hiking Adventure Treks and Nepal Everest Holidays are known for their professionalism and local expertise.
