Those who play the role of team leaders are fully aware that no journey to success is obstacle-free.

As a leader, one is faced with numerous responsibilities – a part of which is to guide their members through unforeseeable challenges with the highest levels of efficiency.

With Covid-19 on the rise again and the second wave of the virus taking place in the country, let us take a look into three simple ways, recommended by the Harvard Business Review team, which will help you lead your crew through tough times.

Get it done

After a highly disruptive event, the team should solely focus on completing the tasks at hand, regardless of who does it.

Whether you are understaffed or the workload is simply too much, the key is to divide and conquer.

The hierarchy which exists among teams should cease to exist as workers come together and perform tasks outside their given roles.

The notion of working in an area outside your expertise can be daunting, but as long as the team pushes through the workload together, all else becomes secondary.

Divide and conquer

Similar to what was mentioned above, in a state of urgency, it least matters who executes a task.

Roles must be interchangeable when necessary and gaps of unavailable employees should be filled by those who can respond the fastest.

Swapping and redistributing tasks teaches the importance of teamwork under pressuring circumstances and enhances efficiency as a cohesive unit.

Team over ego

It is very common for hierarchy to exist; it is a part of our innate condition as humans.

However, when it comes down to self-healing among teams, it is crucial to keep in mind that no individual is greater than the team itself and the goal they are trying to achieve.

In order to execute tasks efficiently, it is imperative that one adheres to the required criteria.

In cases where individuals are unable to carry out the expected function, they should be encouraged to reach out to those who are competent for guidance.

It is the mindset of putting the team's needs before caving in to one's ego which will help the unit reach the highest levels of effectiveness after a period of turmoil.

With uncertainty approaching us from every corner, it is only expected for companies and organisations to feel scattered and disoriented.

Riding such tough tides may be challenging, however, it is feasible when one hones in on the concept of teamwork.
