Dos and don'ts that can lead to making the best out of working remotely

Working from home is not a new concept in this day and age. Many organisations use such flex working mode or hours for the sake of being agile and updated. If an important project is on the run during a natural disaster, it is advisable to be connected with colleagues and work from home.

As long as the situation is under control and it is not taking a toll on the well-being of employees, work can go on. Here are a few tips to attain an effective work-from-home experience:

Renewing job description

Things can take a huge turn in a situation when people have to alter their workplace and working patterns with a comfort zone. A fast worker might run out of ideas and end up being in a fix whereas, a silent worker might share a number of good ideas.

In such a situation, preparing a new job description that will tap the newly found habits and talents of employees might be helpful.

An introverted employee might come with new suggestions to work increasing productivity. As a result, he or she can lead work teams in the new situation. This will also increase his or her motivation.

Using a specific app for communication

In the spread of applications and platforms for communicating, it is really important to use one particular medium; one app for office talks and meetings. There are several platforms and not all people use the same medium for the same purpose.

So, there should be one common method of contact for all colleagues which will be used only for official purposes. It will simplify the working procedure.

Reporting daily to departmental head

As working from home is supposed to bring new experiences every day; either convenient or hindering, it is imperative to talk about the experiences in the office group chat. It is the duty of the departmental head to look through the messages and reply at the end of each day.

If messages or problems are not communicated early or in real time, the difficulty level rises which hampers the workflow. As it is a new set up for many, the difficulty might put down motivation initially.

Avoiding irrelevant discussion in a work group

Employees must actively share their daily experience and avoid talking about irrelevant issues in the office group chat because it diverts the attention from work. Consuming more space with peripheral information can make it tiring for another employee to scroll up to look for important information.

Brainstorming and experimenting

As people are free to work from home, the work pattern shifts bringing in the scope of experimenting with new ideas and methods. Employees can brainstorm and experiment with something new.

Internet being the basic medium of work brings in the opportunity to work on different things in different manners. Employees should be encouraged to think again, research, and come up with new ideas about work.

These guidelines can help a company or department to effectively and efficiently work from home. When there is a change, people should not worry about losing the comfort zone much, rather, it is interesting to see the unforeseen and immense possibility that the change acceptance may bring.
