Puro Pastry & Bakery: Pure goodness

If you're looking for premium quality Turkish desserts, Puro Pastry & Bakery is one place you will want to check out. In fact, one could even say that they offer the very best Turkish desserts in town. Some of their highlights are the baklavas, kunafas and the kunafa bin baklavas.

Puro has four branches in Dhaka - Mohakhali, Dhanmondi, Gulshan 1 and 2 - and you can also order online via contacting their Facebook page.

Apart from Turkish desserts, Puro also has a wide range of desserts and cakes which are something worth taking a look at, especially their cakes.

Baklava: This Turkish dessert is a classic and it's a pastry with layers of filo mixed with honey and chopped nuts. The baklava that Puro offers is sweet and extremely rich and the thin patties-like pastry delicately melts in your mouth. Although it's not the biggest dessert, it packs a punch and having just a few can fill you up, even if you have a massive sweet tooth.

Priced at 330 taka for a box, we give this a solid 8 out of 10 rating.

Kunafa: Shaped like barfis with semolina dough sprinkled over, the kunafas are drenched in a sweet syrup. The version Puro offers is a fantastic dessert - sweet, crunchy and chewy - that will have you wanting more.

It's not as sweet as the baklava because of the semolina dough but it's a beautifully balanced dessert.

Priced at 350 taka for a box, we liked this even more than the baklava and give it a 9 out 10 rating and is something you must try.

Kunafa bin Baklava: As the name suggests, this is a bit of an innovation by Puro and it is a mix of a kunafa and a baklava.  The top half is the patties-like pastry that you would see in a baklava.

In the middle, there are some finely chopped nuts held together by a thick sugary syrup, while the bottom of the dessert is a layer of semolina dough which resembles the look of a kunafa. While the idea is novel, the mix of the two is not exactly smooth and we prefer them to be separate. We also feel that the small bite-sized pastry is a little too sweet, even for those with a sweet tooth.

Priced at 350 taka for a box, overall, we give this a 7 out of 10 rating.
