Huawei Y7p: Premium design at an affordable price

Priced at Tk18,999, the Huawei Y7p presents a 6.39-inch display with a hole-punch camera at the front, triple camera setup at the back, Kirin 710F chipset, and a 4,000mAh battery. This phone has impressed me with its features and that too, at such a price range. Here is a review of the phone:

Design

Instead of glass, the device is actually made of polycarbonate materials. Hence, the smartphone will certainly not shatter if you drop it accidentally. The back of the phone is layered on top of a reflective layer to produce a futuristic glare effect.

The mid-frame seamlessly connects the two sides, producing a streamlined, uni-body look that is both, aesthetically pleasing and makes for a more comfortable grip. The smartphone comes in classic Midnight Black and unique Aurora Blue colours.

On the front, there is a thin bezel all over the phone, with a hole-punch front camera located at the upper left corner named Punch FullView Display by Huawei. It is quite astonishing to see such a design in this price range because rumours suggest that the OnePlus 8 Pro has used a similar design as well.

Measuring at 6.39 inches diagonally and with thin bezels, the 19.5:9 display supports an HD+ resolution of 1560x720 for displaying fine details with vivid clarity. Also, with a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, the smartphone provides great gaming and video viewing experience.

An all-round photography experience

The Huawei Y7p offers a rear triple-camera setup that includes a 48MP main camera with an f/1.8 wide-aperture lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera supporting 120-degree field of view, and a 2MP depth assist camera.

Equipped with a large 1/2-inch sensor, the Huawei Y7p also excels in low light scenarios, producing clear, low noise images that are rich with colours and details. Night Mode also makes a return, supporting stabilisation for handheld shots taken with up to a six-second exposure for easy detail-packed low-light shots.

Upon detecting that the user is shooting with backlight, the camera will turn on HDR Mode, which can combine three frames taken in quick succession to create a stunning photo that has a higher dynamic range. Like many other Huawei smartphones, Huawei Y7p also features AI Scene Recognition, enabling the rear cameras to recognise over 500 scenes and apply real-time custom enhancement to turn works of novices into masterpieces.

Additionally, 480fps video capture enables users to capture slow-motion videos that play back at 1/16 normal speed.
For selfie lovers, there is an 8MP front camera underneath the Punch FullView display. The front camera supports Huawei's AI algorithms and can also be used to unlock the device through face unlock mode.

What is inside the device?

Right out of the box, the Y7p runs on EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie and it is armed with the Kirin 710F processor and 4GB of RAM. As a result, navigation, multitasking, and web browsing run smoothly without any hassle. The phone comes with an internal space of 64GB, but do not worry, it is expandable up to 512GB through a MicroSD card.

The battery power is also quite sufficient; it housed with a 4000mAh battery and the device gets fully charged within two hours with its micro USB charger.

One thing to keep in mind is that the phone does not come with google mobile services, which means there is no dedicated YouTube or Gmail app preinstalled in the device but you can always use the web to go through your mail. Huawei's own AppGallery includes a range of essential apps to fulfil your need and the apps are also easy to download.
