PCIU Volunteers Forum honours 27 students for humanitarian work in Chattogram
Key initiatives included distributing pre-dawn meals to around 200 fasting individuals, organising iftar gatherings with elderly residents at a care home in Raozan, and hosting iftar for about 100 children at a madrasa and orphanage.
The PCIU Volunteers Forum of Port City International University has recognised 27 student volunteers for their work supporting underprivileged communities in Chattogram.
The awards were presented yesterday afternoon (27 April) at the Theatre Institute in the city, marking the conclusion of the month-long "Sharing Happiness 6.0" initiative carried out during Ramadan.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and was presided over by forum president Sharmin Akter. University Registrar Md Obaidur Rahman attended as the chief guest.
In his remarks, he said such humanitarian activities strengthen students' sense of social responsibility and encourage continuation of similar initiatives in the future.
Faculty members, assistant proctors from various departments, executive committee members and students were also present at the event.
Awards were distributed across four categories: Best Department Representative, Best Dedicated Member, Best Fundraiser and Best Supportive Member.
Organisers said the campaign included nine phases of activities throughout Ramadan, focusing on food support, welfare assistance and community outreach.

The group also distributed food among low-income workers and pedestrians in different parts of Chattogram, provided Eid clothing to students at a technical school in Khulshi, and organised a festival for underprivileged children.
Other activities included distributing Eid essentials to around 80 families in Chattogram and Khagrachhari, providing financial assistance for a liver tumour patient, and handing over a rickshaw to a resident of Tigerpass to support his livelihood.
Organisers said the recognition aims to encourage continued student engagement in humanitarian service alongside academic life.
