They will do the repair work in the coastal areas of Satkhira, including Datinakhali, Lebugunia, Kamalkati, Ghola, Hazrakhali, Mariyala, Hijlia, Kola, Kurikaunia and Chakla embankments

Army begin repairing coastal dam in Satkhira

The Bangladesh Army have started repairing the embankment on the Kholpetua River in coastal Assasuni upazila of Satkhira.

An army team led by Lt Colonel Anwar from Jashore Cantonment begun the work on Saturday morning in Hazrakhali area of Sriula union, according to Abu Hena Shakil, chairman of Sriula Union Parishad.

Local public representatives and general people are cooperating with the army team in this regard, he added.

Lt Colonel Anwar said, "We ourselves will do the repair work. All the manpower required for the dam maintenance will be recruited. Besides, we are providing all the equipment to repair of the dam."

"We are doing the work by involving the local people's representatives, including chairman and members, and the general people so that the work can be finished in a better way."

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal, Lt Colonel Anwar and officers of different ranks from both the district administration and the army visited the area on Saturday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Mostafa Kamal said the army will do the repair work in the coastal areas of Satkhira, including Datinakhali, Lebugunia, Kamalkati, Ghola, Hazrakhali, Mariyala, Hijlia, Kola, Kurikaunia and Chakla embankments, which were destroyed by cyclone Ampan.

All kinds of preparations have already been completed, he added.
