Amphan inundates western part of Sundarbans in Satkhira

Forest department officials suspect that cyclone Amphan has inundated the western part of the Sundarbans' forest-bed in Satkhira district.
The cyclone passed over the district with gusts of 72 to 148kmph and tidal surges up to nine feet.
On Thursday morning, Forest Department's Khulna Circle conservator of forest, Moyeen Uddin Khan, told The Business Standard, "Our investigation teams haven't returned yet. The river water is still too rough. It takes time to calculate the actual damage. So far as I know, the damage is minimal."

On Wednesday, the cyclone Amphan hit heavily on the Indian part of the Sundarbans, also inundating the forests' Bangladesh part.
West divisional forest officer Bashirul-Al-Mamun was unreachable over the phone as he was busy in inspection.
The East divisional forest officer Belayet Hossen said that the cyclone with high tidal surge had inundated the forests' freshwater ponds.
"Most of the tin-sheds of forest guard posts were blown away. And the tidal surge damaged the jetties. So far we have found no dead wild animals. However, the gusts have uprooted some trees," Belayet said.
