Chattogram port authorities have announced alert no 3 after the Meteorological Department issued danger signal no 6 in the port for the approaching super cyclonic storm Amphan.

All ships that were unloading containers in the port's jetty will be sent to outer anchorage following the enforcement of the alert.

The shifting of the ships will start from early Tuesday. The ships that are stationed in outer anchorage will be taken to Kutubdia-Cox's Bazar coast.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Chattogram Port Secretary Md Omar Farooque said, "The unloading of goods from mother vessel to the lighter vessel has been halted following the raise of the alert."

Besides, all small size water transports have been sent near Shah Amanat Bridge from the port channel.

According to the port authorities' plan of Cyclone-Disaster Preparation and Post-Cyclone Rehabilitation, four alerts were formed in light of the Meteorological Department's warnings in 1992.

If the Meteorological Department issued warning no 3, ports host alert no 1 in first stage. Ports host alert no 2 in against of warning no 4 while alert no 3 is hoisted for danger signals no 5, 6 and 7.

Finally, the alert no 4 is hoisted when the meteorological department asks to hoist great danger signals 8, 9 and 10 and all activities of ports are stopped then.
