Film fest for mountaineers

A day-long film festival highlighting the adventures of mountaineering is set to begin tomorrow (Thursday) in Ruhul Quddus Auditorium in Nilkhet of the city.

The Dhaka Mountain Film Festival 2020 will screen some select titles for mountain enthusiasts. These are: The Mountain Life, 121, Safe Heaven, Return to Earth, Hors Piste, United States of Joe's, The Nose Speed Record and the High Road.

While the festival's theme may seem off-beat for mainstream audience, but its organiser named Audree says there is lot of enthusiasts thirsty for thrilling stories of the trekkers and mountaineers.

"When we organised it for the first time last year at the Alliance Francaise, all the 70 seats were filled and some others had keep standing," said Salehin Arshady of Audree. He said that the participation was beyond their expectation which prompted them to consider the second edition of the event.

The festival originated when some local travellers found each other through a Facebook page named "Travellers of Bangladesh" way back in 2015.

Primarily it was all about sharing their beautiful experiences with one another. Since the same passion connected all and they belonged to different groups, they felt like doing something together. Something that will leave an impact on the entire society. This is when the idea of staging a film festival was floated.

The organisers are also hoping the event will encourage young filmmakers to come up with film ideas on mountaineering.
