Bangladesh earned $20bn in exports during Covid: Commerce Secretary
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Capacity Development Programme launched by ICMAB
Commerce Secretary Md Jafar Uddin said Bangladesh earned 20 billion dollars from exports as production continued even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's prompt and courageous decision at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic made it possible," he said.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Capacity Development Programme launched by the Council of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) at ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium on Saturday, said a press release.

The ICMAB also accorded an open hall reception to 53 students who were awarded the prestigious Certified Management Accountant (CMA) degree in the June 2020 final examination.
Congratulating the newly qualified CMAs, Md Jafar Uddin said, "To enrich yourselves, you must learn and know about everything around you."
The commerce secretary made a commitment to take necessary steps for the development of this profession and the Institute.
President of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) AKM Delwer Hussain attended the event as special guest.
AKM Delwer Hussain said CMA professionals can make a meaningful impact by applying their expertise to achieve clarity in a range of economic issues.
Congratulating the newly passed CMAs, ICMAB President Md Jasim Uddin Akond FCMA said they owe much of their success to their family, so they must take care of their near and dear ones.
He also said that this is the start of a brand-new journey and they must take responsibility for this profession and institute in the days and years ahead.
ICMAB vice presidents Abu Bakar Siddique and Md Mamunur Rashid, treasurer Md Ali Haider Chowdhury also spoke.
