Sanem welcomes fiscal stimulus
Dr Raihan also stressed that the size and coverage of the social safety-net programmes should be widened

South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (Sanem) has welcomed the government's financial package to help the economy overcome the coronavirus shocks, suggesting some more budgetary measures for a sustainable and faster recovery.
Dr. Selim Raihan, executive director of the local research organisation, said a large allocation is needed for the health sector, while tax-management and banking sectors need urgent reforms.
He remarked that the financial package should be implemented transparently to make sure that only certain influential sectors and groups were not benefited out of it.
Dr Raihan also stressed that the size and coverage of the social safety-net programmes should be widened, while informal sector needed to be incorporated in the announced financial package.
