Several hundred garment workers of TNZ Group staged a demonstration in front of Shrom Bhaban in Dhaka this morning (27 March), demanding three months' unpaid wages and their Eid-ul-Fitr bonus.
The workers, mostly women, gathered near the labour ministry office early in the morning, holding placards and chanting slogans to press home their demands, reports The Daily Star.
The protest comes as thousands of RMG workers across the country demand timely payments and bonuses before the long Eid holiday.
A total of 122 readymade garments and textile factories are yet to clear the salaries of their workers for the month of February, said Industrial Police today (27 March).
According to the report, 422 factories have paid half of the salaries for March to their workers in advance.
A total of 2,167 factories have paid Eid bonuses to their employees, while 723 factories are yet to pay the bonuses, which is 25% of the total factories.
The government has imposed travel bans on the owners of 12 garment factories for failing to pay workers' outstanding wages, benefits, and compensation. They will not be allowed to travel abroad until the dues are settled.
