Garment owners pledge unity to tackle industry challenges
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted the current state of the apparel industry

Garment industry leaders have vowed to stand united in addressing the ongoing challenges facing Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The pledge came at the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), held today (20 September) at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, said a press release.
"The meeting pledged to make united efforts to face the challenges of the industry," the release said.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu presided over the meeting, which was attended by members of the board of directors.
The audited financial statements for the fiscal year 2023–2024 were approved in the meeting, along with the presentation and approval of the budget for the fiscal year 2024–2025. An auditor was also appointed for the fiscal year 2024–2025.
In his remarks, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted the current state of the apparel industry, various initiatives undertaken by his board over the past three months, and the future action plans.
This AGM for the fiscal year 2023–2024 was originally scheduled to be held by the previous Board.
However, as they could not complete their tenure and the Association was run by a government-appointed administrator for about eight months, the meeting could not be held on time.
In this context, after assuming responsibility, the current Board arranged this meeting at the earliest possible time as a symbol of their transparency and accountability to the members.
