'Made in Bangladesh' Proton X70 SUV rolled out at Tk38.5 lakh
The model was selling at Tk44-48 lakh before local production
Rancon Cars Ltd has launched the locally painted and assembled compact crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) Proton X70, of the Malaysian brand, in Bangladesh at Tk38.5 lakh.

The X70 comes in four colours— Jet Grey, Ruby Red, Cinnamon Brown and Space Grey, with a 5-year or 150,000 km warranty that customers can avail from Rangs workshops in Dhaka and Chattogram.

"All units of the X70 SUVs are now being proudly made in Bangladesh at the Rancon Industrial Park in Gazipur," Rancon Cars Director Muhammad Mostafizur Rashid Bhuiyan said at the launching event at the Proton Bangladesh Rancon showroom at Tejgaon, Dhaka, today (30 April).
"Local assembly is a major milestone, making world-class SUVs more accessible to our market," he added.
The 1500cc petrol car offers a distinctive and appealing design. It features Proton's signature "Infinite Weave" grille that creates a robust frontal identity, complemented by intelligent high beam control (IHBC) headlamps, daytime running lamps (DRLs), auto rain-sensing wipers, and a panoramic sunroof for an airy, spacious cabin feel.
The SUV also features elegant 19-inch alloy rims and a ground clearance of 200 mm.
It also boasts a touchscreen infotainment system with the voice command "Hi PROTON", online navigation, music streaming, weather updates, smartphone connectivity, multiple USB ports, keyless entry, drive mode selection, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The ADAS are designed to enhance safety and comfort, especially suited to the unpredictable nature of Bangladeshi roads, where traffic is often unpredictable and driving conditions can be challenging.
Under the hood, the Proton X70 is powered by a 1.5L TGDi turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine. It comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with manual mode, offering smooth and responsive gear shifts.
Features like adaptive cruise control (ACC) and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) help in congested traffic, automatically adjusting speed and stopping when needed.
The vehicle's blind spot information system (BLIS) and lane departure warning (LDW) are valuable on narrow, busy streets and highways, reducing collision risks from sudden lane changes or overtaking.
At the launching event, Md Badiuzzaman, executive director of Rancon Auto Industries, said they are proud to lead the local assembly of the Proton X70 in Bangladesh, upholding Proton's global standards. "Each vehicle reflects our commitment to world-class quality and marks a major step forward for the country's automotive industry."
Rancon Cars Director Mostafizur Rashid further said, "Given the rising demand for premium SUVs in Bangladesh, Proton is poised to become a market leader."
The Proton X70 incorporates advanced technology and design, thanks to its global partnership with Geely, which encompasses brands such as Volvo and Lotus, he added.
