Industrial production disrupted as gas supply cut off after fire on Titas pipeline in N’ganj
Factories inside the Bscic industrial area were not affected

Production at several industrial units in Narayanganj has been disrupted after gas supply was cut-off due to a fire on a Titas Gas transmission line following a leakage near the Bscic area of the district.
The incident has halted production at gas-dependent textile, garment, and other factories connected to the affected transmission line under the Panchabati-Muktarpur flyover at Panchabati intersection.
Mohammad Hatem, president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), who also owns a factory in the Bscic area, told TBS that the fire originated from gas line leaks at two separate points.
He, however, clarified that factories inside the Bscic industrial area were not affected. "Only the factories under that specific transmission line have seen production halted," he said.
Confirming the incident, Razib Kumar Saha, deputy managing director (Narayanganj) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC, told TBS that the contractor of the Panchabati-Muktarpur elevated road was responsible for the fire.
"The leakage occurred while the contractor was working on the flyover," he said. "This is not the first time – similar incidents have happened several times before. We repeatedly requested them in writing to coordinate with us during such work, but they did not comply."
However, he said Titas Gas workers were already repairing the line and expressed hope that the gas supply would be restored by the night.
Shahid Alam, deputy managing director of Shah Fatehullah Spinning Mills Limited, said, "Gas supply to our factory stopped around 3:30pm due to the leakage and has not resumed as of 8:30pm. Over a hundred factories connected to this line are facing the same issue."
Local sources said an employee named Yasin Arafat of Shahjalal Glass Center was injured in the fire and later sent to the Dhaka Burn Unit for treatment.
