Bangladesh to host major investment summit in April

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) will host a major investment summit in April to boost FDI in the country.

Bida officials told TBS that over 3,000 delegates from more than 40 countries have already expressed interest in attending the "Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025" scheduled to be held from 7 to 10 April.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to inaugurate the summit in the capital.

The officials said the summit will offer a unique platform to explore investment opportunities, foster partnerships and engage with top decision-makers shaping the future of business.

"Bangladesh has immense potential, and I believe we're on the path to unlocking it. Once investors come in, we want them to be happy and become ambassadors for Bangladesh," said Nahian Rahman Rochi, Bida's head of Business Development.

He said, "We will primarily highlight investment opportunities in five key sectors: renewable energy; digital economy; textile and apparel; healthcare and pharma; and agro-processing. Each topic will be discussed in separate sessions, where business representatives from various countries will be present."

Rochi said businessmen from China, as well as countries in North Asia, the Middle East and Europe have shown interest. "Many have reached out to us and intend to hold bilateral meetings here."

The officials said among the investors coming from various countries, there will be special delegations of businessmen from Germany, the USA, China and Korea.

They said two of the world's richest individuals and investors — Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and Starlink, and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon — have been invited to attend the summit.

Rochi said, "Efforts will be made to advance as much work as possible with Starlink. Launching Musk's satellite internet service is a continuous process."

Bida will take selected participating investors on a visit to the Korean Export Processing Zone in Chattogram's Anwara; the National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram's Mirsharai; and the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone in Narayanganj's Araihazar.

During the summit, discussions will take place across various sessions at a five-star hotel in the capital. Bida believes that the conference, through its sessions, investor exchanges, public-private sector connections and participation of foreign guests, will play a crucial role in the country's business, trade and economic progress.

To attract more domestic and foreign investment in the country's promising sectors, Bida has taken the initiative to present the Excellence in Investment Award 2025 to successful investors.
