The country's economy has undergone unprecedented progress across all sectors, attracting global praise, said Agriculture Minister, Dr Md Abdur Razzaque.

"The government has been successfully running the country since 2009, ensuring security for the people and bringing peace and stability. Consequently, improvement across all sectors of the economy has been exceptional," the minister said.

He was speaking during a special extended meeting of the local Awami League at the District Council auditorium in Manikganj on Saturday morning.

No aspect of the economy has been left untouched by the various development initiatives driven by the government. Development in every field is clearly visible, in terms of physical infrastructure, power, education, health, agriculture and information technology, he said.

Dr Razzaque also said, "Politics is for the welfare of the people. We must be actively engaged in the wellbeing of the people and use politics for that purpose.

"There are some workers who commit malfeasance in their own interest and smear the reputation of the party. We must protect our party from them."

We need to boost the image of the party by continuously working for the welfare of the citizenry, the Minister stressed.

Dr Razzaque said Bangladesh had once been a nation of beggars, a country of food shortage. However, today's Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food and is now third in rice production, surpassing Indonesia.

There has been much success in other fields of agriculture as well, and the quality of life of rural communities will be significantly improved by sustaining and building on this success, he added.

Income of rural communities must be increased to be able to transform rural Bangladesh into genuine cityscapes. There is no other way to achieve this, he commented.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader addressed the extended meeting presided over by Manikganj District Awami League President, Advocate Golam Mohiuddin.

Education Minister, Dr Dipu Moni; Health and Family Welfare Minister, Zahid Maleque; Awami League Organising Secretary, Mirza Azam, and many others also spoke on the occasion.
