Corruption must be eliminated to solve any future problem in Bangladesh, Debapriya Bhattacharya, the head of the committee to prepare a white paper, said today (9 October).

He said, 'If corruption cannot be eliminated, it will most likely not be effective. For this reason, the smuggled money must be brought back, and those who have committed corruption within the country must be punished.'

Corruption is our number one enemy, he said.

The head of the committee to prepare a white paper formed by the interim government said these at a public hearing held at a hotel in Rajshahi city.

Other members of the committee were also present at the event.

Around 240 people from various professions, including teachers, students, NGO workers, ethnic minorities, engineers, doctors, and journalists, participated at the public hearing. Among the participants, around 125 people participated in a discussion.

They discussed various issues, including the elimination of corruption at the field level, independence of the judiciary, development of agriculture-based industrialisation in Rajshahi, gas connection, reduction of electricity and fuel prices.

They urged the present interim government to build a sustainable state system to eliminate corruption and provide a fair election.

They also called the authorities concerned to prevent corruption in the executive department.
