Visa partners with EBL to launch Flex card in Bangladesh

Visa, a global leader in digital payments, has announced plans to launch the Visa Flexible Credential (VFC)—also known as Flex—in Bangladesh, through a strategic partnership with Eastern Bank PLC (EBL). This will mark the country's first introduction of this innovative payment solution, offering cardholders enhanced flexibility and control over their finances.

Visa Flex is designed to transform the cardholder experience by enabling a single Visa credential—the 16-digit card number—to access multiple funding accounts, including savings, credit and prepaid accounts. With this unified approach, EBL customers will be able to manage multiple accounts through one card and set smart transaction rules based on their preferences, such as transaction amount or currency.

In addition to financial convenience, Visa Flex will allow consumers to earn and redeem rewards across different programmes, using one seamless payment credential.

Sabbir Ahmed, Country Manager for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan at Visa, said,

"We are thrilled to collaborate with our long-standing partner Eastern Bank PLC to bring a first-in-market innovation like Visa Flex to Bangladesh. This revolutionary solution is set to redefine how cardholders manage their payments, offering greater control and flexibility across debit and credit purchases. It aligns with our vision to pioneer and deepen digital payment adoption in Bangladesh."

Ali Reza Iftekhar, Managing Director and CEO of Eastern Bank PLC, said,

"At EBL, we are committed to delivering world-class, customer-centric solutions. Introducing EBL Visa Flex is a major step towards simplifying banking and enriching our customers' financial experiences. With this innovation, our customers can access funds across multiple accounts through a single credential—making everyday transactions simpler and more intuitive."

The Visa Flexible Credential programme is part of Visa's broader global initiative to offer greater choice and secure, streamlined digital payment experiences. The partnership with Eastern Bank PLC underlines Visa's commitment to advancing financial innovation and digital transformation in Bangladesh's banking sector.
