Viqarunnisa debating club revives national tournament after six years

Debating has long been one of the most recognised ways of expressing rational thought, shaping morals and norms through deliberate reasoning.
To celebrate this spirit, the Viqarunnisa Noon Debating Club (VDC), founded in 1990, organised the "Monalisa presents VDC 10th National Debate Tournament 2025" on August 28–30.
Guided by the theme "The Horsemen of the Apocalypse," the three-day event symbolically tackled urgent global issues through debate. Over 56 distinguished schools and colleges nationwide participated, making the tournament one of the most prominent national debating events of this year.
In the Bangla Category, Adamjee Cantonment College clinched the championship title, with Birsrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College as runner-up. In the English Open Category, Mastermind School took first place, followed by Vertical School.
Chief Guest Ismail Jabihullah, in his remarks at the prize-giving ceremony, said: "The debate competition is not just a competition, but a celebration. It helps build confident, truthful, and efficient leadership of the young generation and prepares them to face the challenges of the future."
VDC President Taznova Islam noted: "After six years, VDC proudly revived its National Debate Tournament, marking its return after the pandemic. We are honoured to give a platform to participants to showcase their critical thoughts, while their voices echoed with justice, reasoning, and fearless thinking."
Monalisa served as the title sponsor, while Nagad and Hatil supported as gold and silver sponsors, respectively. Their contribution, along with the efforts of VDC's executive panel, moderator Wahida Jafar, treasurer Shahnaaz Rahman, alumni, and volunteers, ensured the event's success.
With its 10th edition, VDC reaffirmed its legacy—not only as a competition, but as a celebration of ideas, expression, and unity.
