ULAB observes International Mother Language Day with solemn commemoration

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) solemnly observed International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs' Day on its campus today, paying heartfelt tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the sanctity of the Bangla language.
The commemoration began promptly with a rally that united faculty members, students, and staff in solidarity and remembrance. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shaheed Minar, where the ULAB community paid their respects to the heroes of the 1952 Language Movement. A one-minute silence was then observed honouring those who laid down their lives for linguistic freedom.
The formal proceedings commenced with opening remarks by Professor Jude William R. Genilo, Acting Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, who reflected on the enduring significance of language rights and the preservation of cultural identity. Following this, Dr. Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Treasurer of ULAB, delivered a thoughtful address on the richness of Bangla heritage. The session concluded with an insightful discussion by Professor Kaiser Haq, Dean of the School of English & Humanities, who shared personal reflections intertwined with the historical relevance of the Language Movement.
ULAB remains steadfast in its commitment to honouring the legacy of those who championed linguistic rights and fostering an academic environment that celebrates cultural diversity and heritage with dignity and respect.
