Third Bangladesh AI olympiad held in Rangpur region
The Rangpur regional round of the "3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2026" was held at Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur, on Friday.
More than 150 students from Saidpur, Rangpur and six surrounding districts took part in the competition, according to a press release.
The day-long event featured programming, mathematical reasoning and artificial intelligence-based challenges, where students demonstrated their creativity, analytical skills and technology knowledge.
The programme began at 8am with the arrival and registration of participants. Students then joined two categories — "AI Quiz" and "AI Coding Challenge".
The coding contest began at 8:45am and continued until 11:10am, while the quiz was held from 9am to 9:45am.
A workshop on AI was later held for quiz participants from 10am. Bangladesh AI Olympiad Academic Coordinator Tasnim Mahfuz Nafis and Saikat Islam conducted the workshop.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony began at 11:10am. Twelve winners were announced in the AI Quiz category and eight in the AI Coding Challenge. The winners received medals and certificates.
Organisers said several more students who performed well in the two categories would qualify for the third National AI Olympiad, scheduled for 16 May. Their names will be published later on the official website.
Brigadier General Mohammad Masudur Rahman, PSC, chairman of the governing body of Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur Principal Lieutenant Colonel Syed Shafiul Islam Meraj, PSC, G, Bangladesh Army, and Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Dr Jahangir Alam were also present.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Masudur said technology-driven events would play an important role in developing innovative thinking, problem-solving skills and future leadership among students.
The Bangladesh Open Source Network said the enthusiastic participation of students from Rangpur division showed that students can achieve international-standard skills if they receive proper opportunities, training and guidance in the growing field of artificial intelligence.
The winners of this round will take part in the national competition on 16 May.
