Stamford University appoints new vice-chancellor
Eminent academic Sharif N AS-Saber has joined Stamford University Bangladesh as its new Vice-Chancellor.
The appointment was made by the President of Bangladesh, who also serves as the university's Chancellor, under Section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010. Dr AS-Saber has been appointed for a four-year term from the date of joining.
The development was confirmed in a press release from Prodeepto Mobarook, Head of the Public Relations Division at Stamford University Bangladesh.
According to the university, Professor Farahnaaz Firoz, Chair of the Board of Trustees, proposed a panel of candidates, from which the President approved Dr AS-Saber's appointment for the next four years.
Dr AS-Saber is an academic leader, strategist, and governance specialist with more than three decades of experience. Before joining Stamford University Bangladesh, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Management under the College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman.
From 2023 to 2025, he served as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education Middle East chapter. Earlier, at RMIT University in Australia, he held senior leadership roles including Associate Professor, Deputy Head, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), Acting Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Acting Head. During his tenure, he established a sustainability-focused Master of International Business programme and led a cluster of the Jean Monnet Sustainable Development Goals Network.
At Monash University, he was the Founding Director of the MPhil (Industry) programme and Director of the International Business programme, and served as an elected member of the Academic Board. He has also provided academic leadership at the University of Tasmania and Massey University.
Dr AS-Saber earned his PhD from the University of Tasmania and an MBA from Monash University, and obtained degrees in Law and International Relations from the University of Dhaka. His research interests include governance, public policy, artificial intelligence, climate change, ethics, and international business strategy. He has secured grants from the Australian Research Council and other international bodies, and has supervised doctoral researchers.
Outside academia, he served in the Bangladesh Civil Service, including as a local government administrator, according to the university.
Dr AS-Saber formally assumed office on 16 February 2026, in the presence of members of the Board of Trustees, along with the university's deans, department heads, and faculty members.
