‘The Soul of Jute’ exhibition opens at Alliance Française de Dhaka
Alliance Française de Dhaka, in collaboration with Travel Magazine Vromon and the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre PLC (JDPC) under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Government of Bangladesh, has inaugurated 'The Soul of Jute' — an exhibition celebrating Bangladesh's golden fibre through design, craftsmanship, and sustainable innovation.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Monday, 17 November 2025, at 10am at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka (26 Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi).
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, attended the event as chief guest. Sheikh Bashir Uddin, adviser to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute; Bilkis Jahan Rimi, secretary of the same ministry; and Md Zahid Hossain, managing director of JDPC, were present as special guests.
'The Soul of Jute' celebrates Bangladesh's heritage of craftsmanship, cultural identity, and tourism potential centred around jute — the nation's golden fibre. The exhibition invites visitors to explore how jute artistry blends culture, craftsmanship, and contemporary design to showcase the resilience and creativity of local communities.
Featuring both traditional handmade works and modern creations, the exhibition highlights the versatility of jute and its capacity to inspire artisans and designers alike.
For decades, Bangladesh's wide range of jute products, artworks, and handicrafts has held a vital place in both domestic and international markets. Beyond their industrial and aesthetic value, these creations contribute significantly to the national economy, support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhance rural livelihoods, empower local artisans, and promote environmentally friendly innovation aligned with Bangladesh's green and sustainable development vision.
The exhibition serves as a prestigious platform to showcase Bangladesh's heritage, creative spirit, and economic potential to a diverse audience, featuring over 150 jute-based products and artworks.
