School-led ‘happy street’ initiative highlights safe streets for children
To mark the 54th Victory Day of Bangladesh, Burhani BSRM High School organised a community festival titled 'Happy Street' on Friday (12 December 2025) in front of its campus at Sher Shah Banglabazar in Chattogram.
As part of the initiative, the adjoining road was temporarily transformed into a safe, car-free playground, allowing children and families to participate in recreational activities in an open and inclusive environment. The concept of 'Happy Street' aimed to promote a people-friendly public space where individuals from all backgrounds could gather freely.
Students and visitors took part in a range of activities, including badminton, tangram, ring games, martial arts demonstrations and magic shows. All activities were open to the public and offered free of charge, drawing spontaneous participation from the local community.
Through the event, the school called for collective efforts to ensure safer streets for children and to promote social inclusion without discrimination. The school authorities expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies, local administration and community members for their cooperation in organising the programme.
Distinguished guests at the event included Huwra Tehseen Zohair, founder and director of Frobel Play School and Frobel Academy; Sabeen Aameir, director of BSRM Group; and Runi Rahman, head of CSR School and principal of Burhani BSRM High School.
People from different parts of the city attended the celebration with their families, welcoming the initiative as a creative way to observe Victory Day.
Burhani BSRM High School provides free education from nursery to grade 10 for underprivileged children and emphasises inclusive, secular and values-based education. As the institution enters its 20th year, it continues to play an active role in community engagement.
